“Brave Men’s Blood” Quilt

The Quilt measures 62” high and 52” wide. It was:
• voted Visitors’ Choice at the Hever Castle Exhibition 2004
• awarded 1st Prize for Hand Applique, 1st Prize for Fabric Painting and 2nd Prize for Large Wallhangings at Quilts UK Exhibition Malvern May 2005
• awarded 1st Prize Hand Applique and 2nd Prize Large Wallhangings at The Great Northern Quilt Show Harrogate September 2005
• awarded 1st Prize Large Wallhangings, 1st Prize Hand Dyed Fabrics & Judge’s Choice at Scottish Quilt Champioships, Edinburgh October 2005

The Quilt represents the Anglo-Zulu War of 1879 set against then background of the magnificent
                         landscapes and wildlife of Zululand and Natal in South Africa.
The Quilt is dedicated to my husband Michael in recognition of all his support and his great interest
in history and in particular to the history of the Zulu nation. He has stayed several times at
                                Isandlwana Lodge (click on link below for details).
The Quilt has been made from personally hand-dyed fabrics.
Pictorial appliqué hand-worked using the needle turning method in Patricia’s own appliqué technique.
Hand printed and hand painted embellishment.
Machine quilting and embroidery.
The back centre panel of a Batik Elephant was painted by a Zulu woman and brought home to me from
South Africa by my son Anthony.
